Dan Kaercher was Editor-in-Chief and Founding Editor of Midwest Living magazine, .launched in 1987 by Meredith Corporation, Des Moines, Iowa. The magazine is one of America's largest regional lifestyle and travel publications, with a circulation of 925,000 and a total readership of 4.2 million, primarily in the 12 Heartland states (Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin).

Previously, Dan was Health and Education Editor of Meredith's BetterHomes and Gardens magazine. He also was Managing Editor during the startup phase of WOOD magazine and has been involved in the launches of several other Meredith magazine products.

In addition to his job responsibilities, Kaercher worked with Meredith's American Family Committee, served on the New Magazine Development Committee, and spearheaded a series of editorial seminars. He has been a featured speaker at a number of conferences and workshops, and hosted the weekly "Midwest Living Radio Magazine," which aired on more than 100 Midwest stations. Kaercher currently is producing "Best of the Midwest: Rediscovering America's Heartland", which is a series of magazine articles, a book and public television programming-all revisiting a number of venues throughout the region that hold special meaning for Kaercher and other Midwesterners.

Midwest Living magazine celebrates the very best of the Midwest by championing the interests, values, and lifestyles of Midwestern families. It offers region-specific information about travel and events, food and dining, and home and garden subjects in a colorful, inspiring magazine package. Midwest Living also publishes a number of tourism-related custom publications, including Michigan Travel Ideas, Chicagoland Travel Ideas, and the Kansas Getaway Guide.
