With Thanksgiving a couple of weeks away, the sight of fresh cranberries being sold at our local grocery store has me in the pre-holiday spirit. The deep burgundy red berries not only make an incredible sauce to complement a turkey dinner, but they also add a touch of color and tartness to this recipe for Apple Cranberry Crisp. A fruit crisp is similar to a pie except it is not encased by a pie crust.
Instead, crisps are a dessert made with a baked fruit filling on the bottom and a crispy crumb topping on top. Apple crisps are a popular choice of desserts to bring to family gatherings during the holiday season. Served warm and often with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, kids and grown-ups will enjoy this variation using cranberries.
