Meet Matt Smiley

Hear Matt Smiley describe how important farming can be to veterans coming home.

Matt Smiley discovered his passion for farming and farms at the University of Californias sustainable agriculture research ranch. He also works at Farmer Veteran Coalition to help other veterans find meaningful careers in agriculture. 

Upon separating from the military, Matt Smiley, a former paratrooper and disabled veteran, spent several years as a wildland firefighter before going back to college.

He discovered his passion for farming and farms at the University of California's sustainable agriculture research ranch, and works at Farmer Veteran Coalition to help other veterans find meaningful careers in agriculture. Matt believes soldiers are uniquely suited to the life of a farmer.
