PBS Food asks Chef Roberto Donna about his time with Julia Child on the show, In Julia's Kitchen with Master Chefs. In the midst of the Julia Child 100th Birthday Celebration, Donna pays tribute to her legacy.
What was it like working with Julia Child? It was an amazing experience, exciting and fun. In the beginning I was very nervous to be in front of the camera with such a prominent person, but quickly I felt relaxed. She was so kind to me and immediately put me at ease and quickly, we had a nice chemistry working, cooking together.
What do you believe is Julia Childs lasting legacy?Mrs. Child impacted American society in so many ways, but one of the most prominent was her ability to have brought good cooking into the American family kitchen.
What was the impact of appearing on "In Julias Kitchen with Master Chefs?"It was huge for a young Italian Chef from Italy. It was one of my first national appearances and to have had the honor to be with someone of Mrs. Childs caliber was a highlight in my personal cooking experiences. Later in years we became dear friends and was very fortunate to have cooked for her during her last trip to DC at my restaurant Galileo.
