Irish Soda Bread with Caraway Seeds

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon caraway seeds
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 cups buttermilk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400.
  2. Mix all ingredients reserving some flour for kneading.
  3. Turn dough out onto floured surface and knead about 5 minutes. Form into round loaf and cut deep cross into the top with a sharp knife.
  4. Dust cookie sheet with flour and place loaf in the center.
  5. Bake about 45 minutes.
