Independent Lens is honored to be a part of the innovative public media initiative Women and Girls Lead. The project seeks to use the power of documentary storytelling and the reach of public media to connect and inspire viewers around the world about issues that affect girls and women.
A number of the films coming to Independent Lens this season are integral to the initiative, including We Still Live Here — Âs Nutayuneân (November 2011); Daisy Bates: First Lady of Little Rock (February 2012); and Strong!(June 2012).
Women, War & Peace, a five-part series from THIRTEEN/WNET, airs on PBS beginning in October, but our friends at Community Cinema are hosting free screenings and community discussions of two episodes across the country this month for the episode Pray the Devil Back to Hell. To find a screening near you, visit Community Cinema.
Women, War, & Peace will be broadcast on PBS on five consecutive Tuesday evenings: October 11, 18, and 25 and November 1 and 8, (check local listings).
