Poll: The Greatest War Documentary Ever Made?

November 11, 2010 by 826chi in

We at Independent Lens would like to wish all of our servicemen and servicewomen — past and present — and their families a happy Veterans Day. Check out this video message from America Ferrera honoring all you do.

To mark this day, we thought we’d conduct an informal poll of you, our wise and opinionated audience. Few subjects seem to inspire documentary filmmakers quite like war. From Ken Burns to Errol Morris to Steven Spielberg to John Houston, some of the biggest names in movie-making have produced classics and a few overlooked gems.

In a crowded field, it’s hard to pick out just one that rises above the rest, but it may be fair to say that Errol Morris’s The Fog of War ranks at or near the top on many experts’ lists.
Our poll is neither comprehensive nor scientific, but we want to know which resonates most with you.
