It’s time to vote for your own personal favorite from the just-concluded 2016-2017 season of Independent Lens. The voting period will run through 5 pm PT Friday, July 21. There were 20 films in this season that lasted from October through July, so we know it’s tough to choose, but if you could pick just one favorite film, which would it be?

Note: Using the Pocial survey tool, scroll down to see all 20 films by grabbing the scrollbar center-right, or mousing over the survey until it appears.

[Voting in the 2016-2017 season poll via Pocial has now closed! Thanks to the thousands of you who voted.]

The winner of the 2016-2017 Audience Award is… {drumroll sound}

Congrats to director Ben Lear and the They Call Us Monsters team! This year’s voting was quite close, and we salute all the films, all deserving in our estimation. But They Call Us Monsters came out on top this year, and we salute them.

Last year’s Audience Award winner was Trapped, directed by Dawn Porter, which also went on to win a Peabody Award. This year’s Audience Award winner will be announced here after voting has closed.
