We’re excited to learn that last season’s film Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story by Dan Birman has been named a finalist for the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism from the University of Maryland. The Casey Medals recognize exemplary reporting on children and families in the U.S.

Cyntoia’s Story is an examination of juvenile justice in the United States through one teenager’s voyage through the system. Cyntoia Brown was 16 years old when she killed a man who had picked her up for sex. She was tried as an adult and sentenced to life in prison.

Our Community Classroom program has included clips from Me Facing Life: Cyntoia’s Story in its FREE curricula collection entitled This is a Story You Have to Tell: Women, Girls, and the Criminal Justice System.

Best of luck, Dan Birman!
