Five Independent Lens Films Win IDA Awards

Wow, what a weekend. The International Documentary Awards bestowed high honors on several films that will make their broadcast premiere on Independent Lens in coming months. We want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the filmmakers and give you our viewers a look at the trailers for these exceptional films.
The winners, announced last week were:

  • Best Feature Documentary: Waste Land, by Lucy Walker — airing April 19 on Independent Lens.
    (Walker also won the esteemed Pare Lorentz Award for Waste Land.)
  • Distinguished Limited Series Award: Have You Heard from Johannesburg?, by Connie Field — airing next season on Independent Lens
  • Jacqueline Donnet Emerging Filmmaker Award: Jeff Malmberg, director of Marwencol — airing April 26 on Independent Lens
  • Best Music Documentary: For Once in My Life, by Jim Bigham and Mark Moormann — airing February 1 on Independent Lens
  • ABCNews Videosource Award: Bhutto, by Duane Baughman — airing May 10 on Independent Lens
