Primetime Emmy Awards

Independent Lens Audience Award Winner Have You Heard From Johannesburg won the Emmy for Exceptional Merit in Documentary Filmmaking at the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards last night!

Have You Heard From Johannesburg is an epic five-part documentary series, produced and directed by Connie Field, chronicling the unprecedented international movement of citizen activists who fought for three decades to bring down the brutal, racist system of apartheid in South Africa when their governments would not.

The combined stories have a scope that is epic in both space and time, spanning most of the globe over half a century. Beginning with the very first session of the United Nations, and ending in 1990 – when, after 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela, the best-known leader of the African National Congress (ANC) toured the world, a free man.

The Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony was held Saturday, September 15, in Los Angeles, CA. Two hours of highlights from the Creative Arts Emmys will air Saturday, September 22, at 8:00 ET/PT on ReelzChannel. For a complete list of award winners, please click here. (PDF)

Our biggest congratulations go out to Connie!
