At Friday night’s 30th annual IDA Documentary Awards, given out every year by the International Documentary Association to recognize and honor outstanding documentary films and filmmakers, Independent Lens was given the great honor of winning the 2014 Best Curated Series Award.

The other very deserving series nominated for this award were PBS’s American Masters, American Experience, and POV, and HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.

“We are deeply honored by this recognition, given both the history of the IDA Award and to be considered alongside four other outstanding series,” said Lois Vossen, Independent Lens Deputy Executive Producer. “This award encourages us as we continue to champion diversity in the filmmakers we fund and the topics we explore, and it validates the importance of these films that spark vital conversations in communities across the country and around the world.”

This was the second straight year Independent Lens received the Best Curated Series Award; can we make it a hat trick in 2015? We shall see. Stay tuned for more details on what lies ahead for Independent Lens‘ Winter/Spring season.

Meanwhile, three Independent Lens films won IDA Awards in individual categories: Limited Partnership received the Humanitas Award; 1971 won the ABC News Video Source Award for best use of footage; and Evolution of a Criminal director Darius Clark Monroe won Emerging Documentary Filmmaker:
