IL Classic China Blue to Stream Free; Chat on Globalization with PBS NewsHour

Next up on the summer ITVS Indies Showcase is an Independent Lens classic, China Blue.
Micha Peled’s stunning undercover film follows Jasmine, one of many teenagers working at a blue jeans factory, struggling to survive brutal work conditions. Shot clandestinely and without permission from Chinese authorities, China Blue takes a rare and poignant look at the individuals who toil day-to-day to make the clothes we buy. The film remains banned in China.

China Blue will stream for free beginning Friday, August 12 and remain available through Sunday, August 14 in the Screening Room of ITVS’s Indies Showcase.

Also, join us here for a chat with Peled and globalization experts, moderated by PBS NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivassan, about the current impact of economic globalization, an update on the young women who were portrayed in his film, and the prospects for a solution to the economic exploitation of laborers around the world. The chat will last about an hour and begin at 2pm ET/11am PT.
