Last night, the 38th annual News and Documentary Emmy® Awards were held at the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City, and Independent Lens was thrilled to learn four of our films took home the Emmy® statuette. All told, PBS led the way with 46 nominations and sported 12 winners last night, the most of any network. Independent Lens had 10 films receive News & Doc Emmy® nominations, and we congratulate all of those nominees (see the full list below).

“We’re thrilled that 10 Independent Lens films were nominated this year and four won Emmy Awards,” said Lois Vossen, Independent Lens Executive Producer. “It’s a testament to these filmmakers extraordinary work. Their boots on the ground storytelling results in films at the epicenter of vital conversations happening in America right now about race, gun violence, justice, and what it means to live in a democracy. We have more great films like I Am Not Your Negro, Dolores, and The Force.
Congrats as well to the ITVS-funded film Thank You for Playing, which aired on POV and won a well-deserved Emmy for Outstanding Arts & Culture Documentary.
The 38th News & Documentary Emmy® Awards honored programming distributed during the calendar year 2016.
