To honor the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day on Tuesday, we’re co-hosting a live online discussion with ITVS and PBS News Hour about violence against women in the Congo and beyond. Our chat, hosted by NewsHour’s Hari Sreenivasan, centers on the upcoming Independent Lens documentary Pushing the Elephant, and will explore the effects of war on women and families. Join us at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT right here to join the discussion.
We will be joined by Rose Mapendo, the survivor and advocate from the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose story is chronicled in Pushing the Elephant. Additional guests include the film’s directors Beth Davenport and Elizabeth Mandel, and Adotei Akwei, managing director of government relations for Amnesty International.
The live event will be open to the public and participants are encouraged to log on and ask questions. You may also consult our interactive timeline of the history of conflict in the DR Congo for some context.
Honor International Women’s Day by joining us Tuesday, March 8 at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT.
