Women and Girls Lead, a public media campaign designed to uplift, empower, and celebrate women who are making change around the world, is honoring Women’s History Month with a month-long online film festival featuring many audience favorites from the Independent Lens library.
The festival will run through March and features a collection of documentary films by prominent independent filmmakers showcasing extraordinary women and girls on the front lines of changing the world. Titles include Taking Root:The Vision of Wangari Maathai, directed by Lisa Merton and Alan Dater; Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes, directed by Byron Hurt; Shadya, directed by Roy Westler; and Women, War & Peace, executive produced by Abigail Disney, Pamela Hogan, and Gini Reticker, among others.
The film festival will be supported by key campaign partners who will co-present three interactive online social screening events every Wednesday of the month starting on March 14. These social screenings will allow viewers to interact in real time with leading women’s organizations, filmmakers, and other attendees while watching groundbreaking documentaries. We’ll keep you posted on these events as they happen.
