In his new Independent Lens documentary The Waiting Room (premiering on PBS Monday night 10/21 at 10 PM), Peter Nicks presents a more intimate portrait of a debate so entrenched in Washington and around the nation that Congress just narrowly missed a self-inflicted shutdown over it. In true vérité format, The Waiting Room offers a non-partisan plea for a return to the care aspect of the discussion— from the millions of Americans who wind up in ERs annually, to the tireless, often fearless employees who provide care when it’s needed most. And beyond his film, Nicks created an online storytelling project, partnering with StoryCorps, to further share the personal side of this debate.
You can share your own voice on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 10pm ET/7pm PT when the filmmaker himself will host a live national screening of the film along with a live chat, via OVEE.
Watch the film on PBS on Monday, but join in again on Tuesday to share your story and offer your thoughts to Peter Nicks. We’ll see you there.
Update: If you missed the live chat, we have a transcript of the discussion here. Enjoy!
