Which Film Will be This Season’s Audience Favorite? Vote Now

UPDATE: Voting for the Season 10 Audience Award is now closed. Thanks for participating!

Statues, laurels, trophies, medals, plaques, certificates … there are plenty of awards to be won in the film business, but there is only ONE Independent Lens Audience Award, honoring our fans’ favorite film of the season. Like audience awards at the great film festivals, our audience award is especially treasured by filmmakers because it is an expression of appreciation not from peers, or industry, or critics, but from the people who saw and were moved by the film. No one makes an independent documentary film for critics (we hope)!

As Lydia Nibley, director of our 2012 winner Two Spirits, said, “It’s amazing for a filmmaker to see a story that was once hidden and unexplored connect so powerfully with the Independent Lens audience — to see millions of people discussing it online and expanding the national conversation around gender in such brilliant and humane ways.”

Think hard — of 23 broadcast premieres this season, only one can be the winner. You will have two weeks to vote beginning today and ending on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 6 PM EDT (3 PM PDT). We’ll announce the winner sometime on the following Monday, August 20.

Cast your votes on our Audience Award page. (Click on the yellow stars — 1 star being OK, 5 stars being the best — to rate the films you’ve seen.)

Good luck to the filmmakers!
