Engagement & Education Toolkit

The A Path Appears Engagement & Education Toolkit includes discussion guides, lesson plans, a salon guide, and content that provides schools, NGOs, and community organizations with resources to support critical thinking and dialogue on the issues addressed in A Path Appears. Whether hosting an intimate salon-style screening or leading classroom activities and discussions, these resources will inspire action and help spotlight local agents of change.

  • Sex Trafficking

    • ECPAT International is a global network of organizations and individuals working together for the elimination of child prostitution, child pornography, and the trafficking of children for sexual purposes.
    • Fair Girls is a prevention-education and survivor-advocacy program providing opportunities for girls to become confident, happy, healthy young women.
    • My Life My Choice (MLMC) is a survivor-led, groundbreaking, nationally recognized initiative designed to stem the tide of commercial sexual exploitation of adolescent girls.
    • Polaris is a leading organization in the global fight against human trafficking and modern-day slavery.
    • The SAGE Project (Standing Against Global Exploitation) is a resource for information about commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking for sex and labor of both adults and children.
    • Magdalene is a residential program for survivors of prostitution and sexual exploitation that provides health services, counseling, and professional-development training. Thistle Farms is a social enterprise run by the staff and residents of Magdalene House. Purchases of Thistle Farms products directly benefit the Magdalene programs and residents.
  • Early Childhood Intervention

    • The Girl Effect is a collective movement to lift 50 million women and girls out of poverty by 2030 through the education and empowerment of girls.
    • The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) acts on behalf of the needs, rights, and well-being of young children; its primary focus is on the provision of educational and developmental services and resources.
    • Nurse-Family Partnership is a maternal health program that provides support to first-time and at-risk parents.
    • Save the Children is an organization that works to save and improve children’s lives in 120 countries worldwide, including the United States.
  • Teen Pregnancy

    • Every Mother Counts is an advocacy and mobilization campaign to increase education and support for maternal and reproductive health globally.
    • The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global service provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights in 172 countries.
    • The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization grounded in science and working to improve the lives of this generation and the next.
    • Stay Teen provides honest information for teens about sex, love, relationships, delaying sex, contraception, and related topics. It is run by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
    • The White Ribbon Alliance is an international coalition created to ensure that pregnancy and childbirth are safe for all women and newborns in every country around the world.
  • Forced Child Labor

    • CARE International is an organization fighting poverty and injustice in more than 70 countries around the world and helping 65 million people each year to find routes out of poverty.
    • Free the Slaves is an organization dedicated to ending slavery worldwide.
    • The Restavek Freedom Foundation is a group of determined women who are dedicated to rescuing and providing safe shelter for children who are trapped as restaveks.
    • The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs, and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.
  • Gender-Based Violence and Domestic Violence

    • Cure Violence works to stop the spread of violence in communities by using the methods and strategies associated with disease control: detecting and interrupting conflicts, identifying and treating the highest-risk individuals, and changing social norms.
    • Futures Without Violence provides programs, policies, and campaigns for individuals and organizations working to end violence against women and children around the world.
    • Man Up Campaign was created to engage youth in a global movement to end gender-based violence and advance gender equality through programming and support of youth-led initiatives.
    • Men and Women as Allies Initiative is a shared commitment to help communities, nonprofit agencies, unions and companies identify and develop their own responses to domestic violence, bullying, and workplace violence.
    • The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV), a social change organization, is dedicated to creating a social, political, and economic environment in which violence against women no longer exists.
    • Striving to Reduce Youth Violence Everywhere (STRYVE) is a national initiative, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which takes a public health approach to preventing youth violence before it starts.
    • UNiTE to End Violence Against Women was launched in 2009 by UN Women to engage people from all walks of life to end gender-based violence in all its forms.
  • Hotlines for Survivors of Abuse and Sex Trafficking

    • The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children CyberTipline accepts reports of suspected child prostitution activity 24 hours a day, seven days a week.     • The National Domestic Violence Hotline is a 24-hour, confidential, toll-free hotline created through the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) in the United States. Highly trained expert advocates are available to talk confidentially with anyone experiencing domestic violence, seeking resources or information, or questioning unhealthy aspects of their relationship.
