Lewis Black is a comic, an actor, a writer and a playwright. He has toured clubs and theaters throughout the world for the last 40 years and has had two sold out runs on Broadway. In 2001 he won Best Male Stand-Up at the American Comedy Awards. He has released eight comedy albums and has won two Grammy Awards for The Carnegie Hall Performance and for Stark Raving Black. He has had numerous comedy specials on Comedy Central, HBO, Epix, and a variety of other platforms. He was nominated for an Emmy for his HBO special, Red, White and Screwed. His newest special Thanks for Risking Your Life, premiered October 6, 2020 and was his last live performance before the Covid lockdown. He is the longest running contributor to The Daily Show on Comedy Central and has been on since its inception. He also starred in The Root of All Evil, a Comedy Central series. He has a podcast out now called Lewis Black’s Rantcast, where he reads audience written rants which have been submitted during his last tour from fans at his shows and around the world. As an actor, he has appeared in a number of productions at the Williamstown Theatre Festival, on a variety of TV sitcoms and dramas as well as in such films as Accepted, Man of the Year and Hannah and Her Sisters. Black notably voiced the character “Anger” in the Academy Award winning animated film from Pixar, Inside Out. As a writer, he has authored three books, Nothing’s Sacred (Simon & Schuster 2005) and two New York Times Best Sellers for Riverhead Books, Me of Little Faith (2008) and I’m Dreaming of a Black Christmas (2010). He began his career as a playwright, and his one acts Lost in Place are published by Playscripts and One Slight Hitch by Dramatist’s Play Service which have been in production around the world. His other plays have also been performed at The Magic Theatre, A Contemporary Theatre and the Public Theatre. In addition to his professional pursuits, Lewis is dedicated to a number of charitable organizations including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, The Rogosin Institute, and The 52nd Street Project. He’s also deeply committed to supporting our troops. A seasoned USO tour veteran, he’s performed for the troops on three Christmas tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.
