Both on and off the court, Rebecca Lobo personifies success. As the 1995 consensus National Player of the Year, Ms. Lobo led the University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team to its first National Championship. In 1996, she won a gold medal as the youngest member of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Basketball Team, before embarking on a successful seven-year WNBA career. In 2001, Ms. Lobo and her mother, RuthAnn, founded “The RuthAnn and Rebecca Lobo Scholarship in Allied Health” at the University of Connecticut to encourage diversity in the health professions. Rebecca retired from the WNBA in the fall of 2003, was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010, and today works as a television analyst, author, and motivational speaker. She has served on The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees since 2004 and joined Hartford Hospital’s Board in 2013. She is married to Sports Illustrated columnist Steve Rushin. The couple lives in Connecticut with their four children.
