Meet the Team 1999

Conrad Anker Conrad Anker
Climber Conrad Daniel Anker resides in Big Oak Flat, California, and has been climbing for more than 20 years. His preferred style is known as technical alpine climbing, which involves the use of ropes.
Dave Hahn Dave Hahn
Dave Hahn hails from Taos, New Mexico, and has worked as a mountain guide for 14 years.
Jochen Hemmleb Jochen Hemmleb
Jochen Hemmleb is a geology student who resides in Frankfurt, Germany. Now 27, he began climbing at the age of 10 with his father. After a reading a book about the mystery of Mallory and Irvine at age 16 he began collecting data about the mountaineering history of Everest.
Hoyland Graham Hoyland
Writer and mountaineer Graham Hoyland lives in High Peak, Derbyshire, England. In 1993, he became the 15th Briton to climb Everest. The 1999 expedition was Graham's third trip to Everest, and his goal was to help solve the mystery of Mallory and Irvine. Unfortunately, Graham's health was adversely affected at high altitude, and he returned home to England on the advice of physicians.
Lee Meyers
Norton Jake Norton
Jake Norton is 25 years old and lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He guided on Mt. Rainier for five years. His mountaineering career has taken him to Cho Oyu in the Himalayas, Mt McKinley in Alaska, the Alps, and the Andes. This is Norton's first trip to Everest.
Andy Politz Andy Politz
Andy Politz is 39 years old and lives in Columbus, Ohio. He has climbed Everest once, via the North Ridge. His career in the mountains has lasted 25 years, including guiding for 12 years at Mount Rainier. This is Politz' sixth Everest expedition. (He has been to the West Ridge, Kangshung Face, South Col, Japanese Couloir, and the North side.)
Tap Richards Tap Richards
Tap Richards is 25 years old and lives in Ashford, Washington. This is Richards' first Everest expedition, though he climbed the 26,900-foot Cho Oyu in 1996. Richards started rock climbing when he was 15 and became a mountain guide seven years ago. His guiding has taken him to Mt Rainier, Mt McKinley, South America, Mexico, and the Himalayas.
Simonson Eric Simonson
Eric Simonson, who hails from Ashford, Washington, boasts a climbing career that spans nearly 30 years, including 20 years in the Himalayas. He climbed Everest in 1991, on his third attempt. Three times since then, he has stood within 100 meters of the summit. As expedition leader, Simonson is responsible for expedition logistics and organization for the climbing team.
