GUEST: This was a purse from my great-grandmother. I don't know much about it. I've had it in a drawer in my dresser for a long time.
APPRAISER: Well, I would date it to about 1905 to 1910, thereabouts.
GUEST: Okay, cool.
APPRAISER: It's set in 14-karat gold mesh.
GUEST: Oh, wow, I wasn't sure.
APPRAISER: The whole piece is 14-karat.
GUEST: Oh.
APPRAISER: When you brought it up to the table, I opened it up and saw this great little powder puff in there.
GUEST: Yeah.
APPRAISER: With a little mirror as well. And you still have the original powder in there.
GUEST: Yeah, that's what I thought was so cool.
APPRAISER: It's so sweet and it's just a pink little silk bow on the top. And then the other side opens up to reveal the pouch.
GUEST: Right.
APPRAISER: Do you have any idea as to its value?
GUEST: I have none.
APPRAISER: Okay.
GUEST: I almost wasn't going to bring it.
APPRAISER: Well, it is 14-karat gold.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: And a little bit about gold right now... In 2009, gold was at about $900 an ounce. Today, in 2011, it's reached about $1,600 an ounce.
GUEST: Oh, my goodness.
APPRAISER: So it's up considerably. And that really does affect its value.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: So, auction value, I would say between $3,000 and $5,000.
GUEST: Okay, wow.
