APPRAISER: On first look, what we have is a regular Civil War soldier's letter home. But on closer look, it's a hand-drawn map of the vicinity of the Battle of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I believe you said you know the soldier that drew this.
GUEST: Yes, it was my husband's great-grandfather, and he was a surveyor and an engineer.
APPRAISER: Really? And an artist, as well. He did a wonderful job.
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: He drew in the Lookout Mountain. And what I loved about it is, on the right side, it says, "Enemies retreat to Chickamauga," which was the next stage of the battle in the campaign for Atlanta. This is wonderful because the size is perfect, the detail beautiful. The last one of these I sold similar to this brought $1,000.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: But it's a wonderfully drawn piece of Civil War history.
