APPRAISER: Maynard Dixon was actually born in Fresno, California, and he moved to San Francisco to study art. He was born in 1875. But he didn't really enjoy the academic atmosphere, so after three months, he dropped out of school, and he's really considered a self-taught artist. He's really known best for his landscape painting. And his approach was to be very simple and not melodramatic, and as he put it, to get as close to the real thing as possible. And we see this panoramic landscape with a single figure which is very predominant in the composition, which is somewhat unusual for Maynard Dixon. The title, which is recorded on the back of the painting, is, "I Looked on My Valley and It Was Beautiful." I think at auction this might bring as much as $20,000 to $30,000, maybe even a bit more.
GUEST: (giggling) Well, isn't that something?
APPRAISER: It's gorgeous.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: Great, well, thanks for bringing it in. I really loved seeing it.
GUEST: Thank you very much.
