GUEST: My dad was in the implement business, and now I am.
APPRAISER: That's what appealed to you...
GUEST: Right.
APPRAISER: You'd use this to decorate your office or something?
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: Where'd you get these guys?
GUEST: I bought them at a house auction about 20 years ago.
APPRAISER: What'd you pay for them?
GUEST: $15.
APPRAISER: I think you did a good thing because these are very nice little toys. They're cast iron and they were made by a company called Arcade. Arcade was one of the great makers of cast-iron toys, and this was the tail end of the cast-iron toy industry in this country. Came the war in 1941, no more cast iron. The end of the war, went into plastic and all sorts of other materials. But this was a wonderful copy of a 1939 tractor and hay rake. What's unusual is to find them in the original boxes. I'm sure if you've seen this show, you know the boxes...
GUEST: Right.
APPRAISER: ...have a big help on the value of them. And also to find them in such perfect condition with the original decal-- that's very important. These are a little dusty, but when you turn this over you can see that the paint is absolutely flawless. But you paid $15. The last one of these that I could find in the original box brought $1,500. And the last one of these in the original box-- now, it had a little plow with it-- brought $4,400.
GUEST: Oh, mercy.
APPRAISER: So I think between the two of these things at auction in the original box, I would expect them to bring $3,000 to $5,000.
GUEST: Incredible.
APPRAISER: I think you did good stopping by that little house sale.
GUEST: Jeez.
