GUEST: I got this as a kid, as a present from my grandparents. I thought that I was going to be a budding musician. I was taking lessons at the time. And so they were kind enough to give me a present like this, so I enjoyed it.
APPRAISER: The guitar's a beauty. Either you were very careful with it, or you didn't practice very much.
GUEST: (chuckles) Some of each.
APPRAISER: The 335 is an iconic model for Gibson. It was a guitar that was started in 1958 and is still made up to this day. There's features about it-- the thinline, hollow body, the archtop construction. And the biggest thing about it is, it was the first guitar with humbucker pickups in it, in the thinline body. This one is a '68, I believe. It has what they call a trapeze tailpiece instead of what they call a stop tailpiece. This is as nice an example as you will find. It's just spotless. I think a retail value of this guitar would be somewhere around $7,500 to $8,000.
GUEST: Wow.
