APPRAISER: For the most part, I agree with your story. The truth of the matter, though, is Robineau who did this pot, not your grandma. What happened is that I talked to someone else, I sold some Robineau pieces for her recently, her mother was a student of Robineau. Robineau gave her students pieces of hers. This is a Robineau pot itself. And that mark on the bottom is not your grandmom's initials, that is Robineau's signature, which nobody carves a mark like that on the bottom of a pot. She probably spent more time carving her mark on her piece than most people spend on their pots. This is really quite exceptional. She only made about 600 pieces during her lifetime, and this is one of the last pots she made. In fact, she was cremated shortly after this pot was made, and her husband said it was her last firing. This rather simple piece of pottery, made of high-fire porcelain and this great metallic glaze, is worth about $5,000 to $7,000. Very special piece of pottery, no kidding.
