GUEST: I saw it in an antique store. I was with my mom shopping. And I just fell in love with it.
APPRAISER: In my field of old maps, this is one of the coolest things that you can find. And it is a collapsible or expandable globe. It was done by a man named John Betts. The first one was about 1852, and they actually continued to publish them into the 20th century. The only way you can date them is to look at the geography. And one of the fun things about this is it has Nevada and Colorado, which were both created in 1861, but does not have Arizona. It just has the New Mexico territory. It's probably right about the time he died, which was 1863, and they're just wonderful. And their value doesn't come from their geography, which is kind of somewhat crude. It comes from the fact they're fun, and they're really cool. And you've got the original box. In a retail environment this would sell between about $1,500 and $1,800, in that kind of range.
GUEST: Great, thank you so much.
