GUEST: My grandfather, who was an amateur artist, purchased it. I'm not even sure where. It's hung in my parents' house. And then a few years ago I said, "It's just hanging in the hallway. I really like it. Can it come live at my house?" So for about five years it's lived at my house.
APPRAISER: We believe it is an authentic Edouard Cortès. And he was a French painter born in 1882, died in 1969, and he really is best known for the Parisian street scenes. This is atypical. Now, he worked not only in Paris, but he lived in Normandy, he lived in other parts of France. So I think this is probably a French view.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: It's probably something we would date to sort of circa 1945 to around 1955. Your painting I think at auction today would be valued at $8,000 to $12,000.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: And I think if you were to insure it, I would insure it for $25,000.
GUEST: Wow. Okay, that's fantastic.
APPRAISER: It's a really nice painting.
GUEST: That is fantastic.
