GUEST: Well, these were pieces that were given to my great-grandmother by my great-grandfather. My sister got my great- grandmother's diamond, and this is what I received. And I would like to know what they're worth.
APPRAISER: Okay, I'll be glad to tell you. Hopefully the diamond wasn't too big, right?
GUEST: It was!
APPRAISER: Let's go to the necklace. You see right away, scarabs.
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: Or a beetle. This is what we call Egyptian Revival jewelry. Now, there were Egyptian Revival periods before this. This period was post-1920s. What I like about this one, besides having the beetles, you got this very bright colored amethyst.
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: Accented with natural pearls. And it's all done in 14-karat yellow gold. Now, this pin down here, which is fabulous in size, to see one so long with this kind of a wing design, and again you have a heart-shaped amethyst, this is probably earlier. So I could put this at 1890 through the early 1900s.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: And this is set not with a full pearl, but with a split pearl. And then we have a nice pair of briolette-faceted amethyst earrings, which are a little more common, but still nice and it completes the set. On the earrings, we're looking at around $300.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: On this large pin, I would say right around $1,000 at auction.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: Okay?
GUEST: Unbelievable.
APPRAISER: Not bad.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: Now, the necklace at auction, I would put it in at $1,800 to $2,500.
GUEST: Oh, my goodness.
APPRAISER: Hopefully on a good day it would go over.
GUEST: Wow.
APPRAISER: So, maybe a little vindication.
GUEST: (laughing) Oh, I can't wait to tell my sister
