GUEST: I'm not sure. I think it might be a bronze. It does have a lamp fixture. I believe some time or another it was converted. I'm really not sure though. It was given to me by my grandmother. It's older than I am. I mean 50 years I've been seeing it.
APPRAISER: Any idea where it's from?
GUEST: Her grandfather was German, so I'm thinking maybe he possibly brought it over from Germany. I just, I don't know for sure.
APPRAISER: It is Austrian, and it's bronze, it's cold painted. So it's a process where they cast the bronze, and after the bronze is casted, then they apply the paint to the surface. It is also signed on the back right there, and it's B within an urn, and that is the mark for Franz Bergman.
GUEST: Oh, great.
APPRAISER: He had a bronze foundry, and he was into making exotic and sometimes erotic sculptures, figures and lamps. And this was always meant to be a lamp. It was made as a lamp, and at some point someone cut the fixture out.
GUEST: It actually, before it frayed, it came apart.
APPRAISER: And inside the top is actually the fitting for the bulb. You could have that returned to. It does have some condition issues. The lady's face has been repainted, and there's areas of the carpet as well that has also been repainted, and there's losses as well. Still, in the condition it's in, if I were to see this come up for auction, I would say it would be between $2,000 and $3,000.
