APPRAISER: This was a completely plain English walnut blanket chest, or what's also called a coffer in English furniture terms. And then at some point, someone decided that they wanted to make it a little bit more exciting. So they re-carved the front completely with these three oval panels, uh, and the leaf carving here. So as you can see, the piece is dated 1648. So one, six, four, eight. And that's not actually the date of the piece, though, when it was made. Uh, I believe that to have been carved in when the front was re-carved.
GUEST: Gotcha. Why would they have done that?
APPRAISER: Sometimes, uh, there's no reason whatsoever other than to make it look older. Uh, any idea on the value?
GUEST: No clue.
APPRAISER: Okay. So, if I were to see this come up at auction, I would expect to see a value in the sort of, uh, $1,000 to $1,500 range.
GUEST: Gotcha. Cool.
APPRAISER: All right?
GUEST: All right.
