APPRAISER: Well, what do you know about this? Not much, huh? It's just a pot?
GUEST: Pretty much. Well, it's a family heirloom. It was in my father's family, probably well over 200 years old.
APPRAISER: Well, it's old, but it's not quite that old.
GUEST: Oh, it's not?
APPRAISER: No, it's about circa 1900.
GUEST: Oh, okay.
APPRAISER: Yeah, and it's Handel Company, and we know that because it's triple signed. The brass rim at the top is signed, the shade is signed, and on the bottom, under the felt, is also signed. What's great about this piece is that it's the hexagonal shade. It's a beautiful shade and an unusual shape.
GUEST: Mm-hmm.
APPRAISER: So we really like that, and it's in great condition. There's a small chip on the inside. There is, yeah. But it's not too visible to the public, so it's not going to affect value that much. I would estimate this, at auction, at $1,500 to $2,000.
GUEST: Wonderful.
APPRAISER: Okay?
GUEST: I never had any idea what it was worth. That's encouraging, thank you.
APPRAISER: You're most welcome. Now, I would caution you, the cord on this is a little frayed.
GUEST: Yes, it is, it's old, too.
