GUEST: In 1978, I bought it in Santa Fe.
APPRAISER: In Santa Fe at a gallery?
GUEST: Yes.
APPRAISER: Do you remember what you paid for it?
GUEST: About $1,500.
APPRAISER: $1,500.
GUEST: Which was heart-stopping at the time.
APPRAISER: This would have been made in about 1890. The Navajo in the 1880s started marking beautiful blankets out of the Germantown yarns. The Hopi made blankets, and they were called mokis at the time, so when you see these dark, usually dark blue, some of the early ones would be indigo and black. The Germantown yarns, they started using this purple color. I liked the variation in the colors. The variation is very nice. A lot of times, Germantown weavings are accused of being a little static.
GUEST: I see.
APPRAISER: This one has a fabulous pattern, it's just really crisp and clean. And I think we're very comfortable with a $10,000 to $15,000 auction evaluation.
GUEST: Wow. That's very good news, thank you.
APPRAISER: It's absolutely beautiful.
