GUEST: My friend sold it to me, and I paid about $800, $900.
APPRAISER: This is a Dulcitone made by Thomas Machell in Glasgow, Scotland, around about the turn of last century. This is a lovely oak cabinet. The keys appear to be synthetic, plastic. Thomas Machell was born in Edinburgh in 1842. His profession, for at least the first half of his life, was that of piano tuner. So it's kind of telling that a piano tuner would invent essentially a piano that doesn't need tuning.
(both laugh)
APPRAISER: I've seen estimates that there were maybe 2,000 made. In its current condition, which is remarkably clean and playable, I would expect a, a retail value of, of $2,000.
GUEST: Nice. Yeah.
