Biography
Craig Small is a highly respected dealer of fine wristwatches, estate and antique jewelry from all eras, as well as unique gemstones. The roots of Craig’s interest in jewelry and timepieces stretch back to 1938, with the founding of his family’s jewelry business in Chicago, Illinois. A decade later, the family made a move to Los Angeles, California, where they established their company as a premier supplier of high-end jewelry and watches to retail stores nationwide. Craig entered the family business at a young age, becoming an expert diamond grader prior to graduating from high school. He then went to work for a diamond trading company in downtown Los Angeles and gained valuable experience buying and selling diamonds in the wholesale marketplace.
During the mid-1980s, vintage watches and antique jewelry had not yet evolved into the global business they are today. Craig was one of the first dealers in Los Angeles to recognize its enormous potential, and he quickly emerged as one of the nation’s leading experts in Retro, Victorian, and Art Deco jewelry. In 1994, having spent several years supplying the city’s most prestigious jewelers, Craig decided to open a retail establishment of his own, in order to share his passion and enthusiasm for antiques, in a friendly environment.
Since opening his store in the exclusive Antiquarius in West Hollywood (since burned down in 2008) Craig has enjoyed the privilege of working with numerous clients from all walks of life, from world-famous celebrities to soon-to-be newlyweds.
Craig is a member of the National Association of Watch & Clock Collectors (NAWCC) and a founding member of the International Watch & Jewelry Guild (IWJG). Craig travels to several jewelry shows throughout the year, including the Original Miami Beach Antique Show, the Los Angeles Antique Show, and the Baltimore Summer Antique Show.
