Biography

Frank Castle, president and owner of Castle Fine Arts, Inc., has been an active fine-art dealer for more than 35 years, specializing in 18th- through 20th-century Japanese prints, antique maps, the China Trade and natural history plates. Mr. Castle owned and operated The Asian Collector Gallery in Hong Kong for 15 years and in 1990 established Castle Fine Arts in California. He is a member of the Ukiyo-e Dealers Association of Japan, the Connoisseurs' Council of The Asian Art Museum, the Achenbach Graphic Arts Council, both in San Francisco, and is a Life Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society and the Explorer's Club. Mr. Castle was recently selected as an Honored Professional in the National Register's Who's Who of Executives and Professionals, 2000-2001. Mr. Castle hosted The Connoisseurs' Council of The Asian Art Museum where he discussed the 19th-century landscape masters, Hokusai and Hiroshige. He was also a member of a Roundtable Discussion at The Asian Art Museum titled Japanese Woodblock Prints: From Classical To Modern. He recently discussed Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga prints at a meeting of members of the Society for Asian Art, and was invited by the society to conduct a day-long symposium, in April 2002, about the history of Japanese prints. Mr. Castle has also published many articles about collecting Japanese prints, antique maps and China Trade paintings. With private, corporate and museum clients on five continents, Mr. Castle has built a reputation as a dealer who offers knowledgeable, personalized service. He also provides appraisal services for estate and insurance purposes. Office art projects are also a specialty, with courtesy extended to the trade.
