As part of ANTIQUES ROADSHOW’s 2023 visit to Alaska, through appraisals and supporting content, the series has strived to highlight Alaska Native history, traditions, and cultures, as well as other activities and experiences that are part of life in Alaska today.
Two such appraisals — the 1990 Susan Butcher Iditarod trophy and the 1973 Iditarod Race sled — did not fully discuss the background of the Iditarod nor include all points of view about the race.
To provide a broader perspective about the Iditarod race and its history, the role of sled dogs in the competition, and current conversations around animal agency, ANTIQUES ROADSHOW has compiled the following links to independent resources for further reading.
