Ingredients
- Olive Oil
- Fava Beans (canned or fresh. If fresh, soak them overnight in water and then boil them the next day)
- 1 onion (finely diced)
- Garlic (4-5 cloves, chopped)
- Tomatoes (4-5, nicely chopped)
- A dash of berber (an Ethiopian spice)
- Salt and pepper
- Cumin powder
- A bunch of cilantro leaves chopped
- Pita Bread
- Optional: Yogurt, jalapeño
Instructions

In a pot, add olive oil and the chopped onion and cook/saute for a few minutes.

Once the onion has cooked you add in the garlic and let it cook till fragrant, add cumin and berbere.

Then add in the tomatoes and let it cook further.

Once the tomatoes start cooking, you can add in the fava beans. As the fava beans cook you can begin mashing them with the end of a mug.

Let it simmer for a bit (~15-20 minutes).

Add in the cilantro and more olive oil at the end.

Serve with Pita Bread. Optional: yogurt/ labneh and diced fresh tomatoes, onions, and jalapenos.
