What is it about kids (and adults!) and pizza that go together so well? Maybe we love pizza so much because it's always satisfying, usually uncomplicated, readily available, and so incredibly flexible. Plus it just tastes so darn good! That combination of sauce, cheese and bread is appealing to all ages, and there are so many variations. The most innovative pizza I've had recently was with my 13-year-old daughter Celia and her friend Cate before a concert in Washington, DC. We dined at Mike Isabella's Italian restaurant, Graffiato, and devoured a white pizza drizzled with honey and black pepper. I never would have thought of putting honey on pizza, but we could hardly believe how great it tasted. My son, Solomon, who is 15, makes himself pizza bagels after school in the toaster oven. He also loves it when I make these English Muffin Pizza Joes for our family dinner.
Why order a pizza when there are so many easy ways to make it at home so quickly and for a fraction of the price? These Greek Pita Pizzas take only 15 minutes to make, and your kids will enjoy designing their own personal pizzas. If your kids aren't fond of feta cheese, you can make their pizzas with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese -- and even add pepperoni. For a thinner crust, slice the pita breads in half before making the pizzas. For another homemade pizza option, try Caramelized Onion, Mushroom and Goat Cheese Pizza. For dessert, how about a sweet berry pizza cookie?
And pizza for breakfast? Why not?
