Build an Atoll (2)

A coral reef appears along the island's shore. The reef surface is made of living coral polyps, tiny animals that bear limestone shells. The polyps gather food from the ocean with fingerlike tentacles.

Coral polyps can grow on any solid surface, including the skeletal remains of other polyps. A coral reef is actually a ridge comprised of the limestone remains of dead coral, covered by a thin layer of living coral.
