Meet the Bakers: Christine

Christine has 60 years of baking experience, having baked with her grandmother since she was a little girl. She’s a perfectionist and super-organized, and baking is her way of relaxing as she juggles family and work life. She likes to put her twist on traditional bakes, and her favorite thing to bake is cake, especially occasion cakes where she can go to town with the different flavors and sugar paste.   Meet The Bakers   Ali Beca Christine Deborah Frances Glenn Howard Kim Lucy Mark Rob Ruby Toby   Presented […]

Meet the Bakers: Glenn

Glenn teaches English and is a popular Head of Sixth form at a school in Teignmouth. He desperately doesn’t want Mary or Paul to write “must try harder” in his baking report card. He has been baking since he was a teenager and always leaves things to the last minute. He has a competitive streak that pushes him to make things better than the bakes he could buy in the shops. Above all things he loves to bake cake and see people enjoy it.   Meet The Bakers   Ali […]

Meet the Bakers: Howard

Howard used to be a graphic designer, but now works for the council in Sheffield. His creativity comes out in his painting and in his baking. He bakes everything from traditional comfort food to the outrageously elaborate, and likes to experiment with ingredients and flavors to reinforce the design. His favorite things to bake are the birthday cakes he does for his nieces or a simple rustic loaf.   Meet The Bakers   Ali Beca Christine Deborah Frances Glenn Howard Kim Lucy Mark Rob Ruby Toby   Presented by: Produced […]

Meet the Bakers: Kimberley

Kimberley is a psychologist. She describes herself as “a flavor magpie” and her baking reflects the huge variety of flavors that she has picked up along the way, mastering technically interesting and difficult bakes. She likes her flavors to tell a story, such as her Peace breads, combining ingredients and flavors from both sides of conflict regions around the world.   Meet The Bakers   Ali Beca Christine Deborah Frances Glenn Howard Kim Lucy Mark Rob Ruby Toby   Presented by: Produced by: Support for this program provided by:

Meet the Bakers: Mark

Mark is a carpenter and kitchen fitter who is equally at home sculpting wood as he is crafting sugar flowers – he even has a tool box full of his edible glitter, icings and baking accessories. He’s been baking since 2008 and his favorite thing to bake is his Chocolate Monster Cake.   Meet The Bakers   Ali Beca Christine Deborah Frances Glenn Howard Kim Lucy Mark Rob Ruby Toby   Presented by: Produced by: Support for this program provided by:

Meet the Bakers: Lucy

Lucy is a horticulturist and is passionate about using only local and seasonal ingredients. Her interest in baking came from wanting to use her home-grown food more creatively. One of her biggest passions is bread, more specifically her heritage apple sourdough, often waking up at night to make sure her sourdough is properly fed.   Meet The Bakers   Ali Beca Christine Deborah Frances Glenn Howard Kim Lucy Mark Rob Ruby Toby   Presented by: Produced by: Support for this program provided by:

Meet the Bakers: Beca

Originally from Wales, Beca now lives in Hampshire. She bakes for her family, for her husband’s regiment and for her local Military Wives’ Choir of which she is a member. Taught to bake by her mother and both grandmothers, her baking combines traditional family recipes with her own clever twists on flavours. She has perfected macaroons, but she loves baking bread above all else, for its versatility and comforting smell.   Meet The Bakers   Ali Beca Christine Deborah Frances Glenn Howard Kim Lucy Mark Rob Ruby Toby   Presented […]

About A Few Good Pie Places

There are delicious pies for sale at shops, restaurants, cafes and roadside stands across America. So, in this delicious documentary we celebrate A Few Good Pie Places where people still make flaky crusts and scrumptious fillings. In Millvale, Pennsylvania, Frank Ruzomberka makes pies every morning for the Grant Bar & Restaurant that his parents founded in the 1930s. His coconut cream pie is beautiful, creamy, full of toasted coconut, and usually sells out before the day is done. Paula and Jamie Eisenberg make superb pies in their small in-home bakery […]
