Endeavour Season 7: Everything We Know Right Now
Get ready forEndeavour Season 7 and learn 4 surprising things about the new season from Shaun Evans himself, before its premiere on Sunday, August 9 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE on PBS. Don’t miss it!
Will there be a Season 7 of Endeavour?
Yes, there will be three new mysteries in Season 7, which premieres on Sunday, August 9 at 9/8c on MASTERPIECE! While Season 6’s finale exquisitely pointed toward a series ending, situating Endeavour in the station and the house that would become home to his character in the Inspector Morse series, it happily is not the end, as there will be a Season 7 of Endeavour!
What can we expect in Season 7?
Season 7 will be penned once again by Russell Lewis, writer of all 27 of the existing Endeavour episodes. So we can definitely expect devilishly clever mysteries that will test the character of our cerebral and solitary hero, Endeavour Morse (Shaun Evans), and his mentor, Fred Thursday (Roger Allam), in Oxford and its environs.
Lewis teased the press about the upcoming season, which is set in 1970, saying, “We’re thrilled ITV has asked #TeamEndeavour to continue to add to the Casebook of Colin Dexter’s immortal creation, and take E. Morse and Oxford’s Finest into a new decade of decimalisation, package holidays, the Oil Crisis, Blackouts, Three Day Weeks, and Europa Endlos.”
A little Internet sleuthing of Lewis’ tantalizing clues reveal moments from a culture at once racing forward with progress and mired in economic woes…Also revealed? These clues reference events that occur through the first half of the 1970s (rather than just 1970 itself). So it’s not unreasonable to conclude that Lewis’ clues about the upcoming season are every bit as knotty and clever as those of his murder mysteries!
Listen to Russell Lewis’ 2017 interview with the MASTERPIECE Studio podcast, where he talks murder, the social upheaval of the 1960s, Oxford, and a job that has him waking up asking, “Who am I going to kill today?”
Will Shaun Evans Direct Again?
After the uniformly positive experience enjoyed by the Endeavour cast, plus the result itself of Evans’ direction of Apollo, we certainly hope that he will return to both sides of the camera in Season 7! If he’s slated to direct, we’ll absolutely let you know. Discover Evans’ insights about directing and starring in Endeavour in his exclusive MASTERPIECE Studio podcast interview.
Will Morse still be mustachioed?
At this time, a return of the mustache remains yet another great Endeavour mystery…
