    It’s election day in Cornwall! When given the choice between Lord Falmouth’s corrupt candidate and Sir Francis Bassett’s “new order,” represented by George Warleggan, Cornwall votes for change.

    It's a Boy

    As if she hadn’t been through enough, poor Morwenna suffers through a dangerous labor before giving birth to Osborne’s son.

    She survives the harrowing ordeal, but the vicar has other plans for his future. Now that he has his eye on a different prize, we can only imagine the price Morwenna will have to pay.

  3. 3.

    A Well-Kept Secret

    Both mourning Aunt Agatha, Ross and Elizabeth find each other in the local church at the same time–alone.

    Elizabeth confronts Ross about George’s cold behavior towards her, assuming that Ross inspired her husband’s suspicion about their son’s parentage. Ross denies saying anything to George, but gives Elizabeth some advice: remove George’s doubt by having another baby and confusing the dates, making George think 8-month pregnancies are normal for Elizabeth.

    As the two depart on good terms, Ross lovingly kisses Elizabeth goodbye.

    Unfortunately for him, Prudie sees the whole exchange.

    Fake Out

    When he gets home, Demelza asks Ross about his whereabouts.

    In a shocking moment, it seems as though Ross confesses all to Demelza: the kiss, his feelings, his enduring but non-threatening love for Elizabeth…

    It’s only then that we realize this exchange was only in his imagination. He hides the truth from Demelza and quickly excuses himself.

    Rowella Takes Charge

    Rowella, seeing her sister’s fear of her husband, takes matters into her own hands.

    She catches the vicar’s wandering eye and plays into his weaknesses.

    Demelza's Double Life

    At a party, Lieutenant Armitage confesses to Demelza that he is madly in love with her.

    She rebuffs his advances, but later wonders aloud: What would it be like to be two people? One with a steady, loving husband, and one with a doting lover?
