Recap: Episode 6
Our favorites caught a break this week: Dwight and Caroline reunited, fireworks were ignited, and Ross and Demelza began a London getaway worthy of a Do Not Disturb sign. But for Drake and Morwenna, hope is in short supply. Revisit the funny, touching, and riveting moments that are racing Season 4 towards its exciting climax! [Contains Episode 6 Spoilers]
- 1.
Thus Commences the Banking Crisis
Not to side with George, but with a legitimately tragic death still raw in our hearts, we’re kind of “meh” on this one. Pearce was no pillar of Cornish society; the real concern here is that his demise—with the help of George Warleggan—will bring down Cornwall’s sole good banker, Pascoe, taking every cent of Ross’ life savings with it.
- 2.
At the Not-So-Pleasurable Pleasure Gardens
At the Pleasure Gardens (a dubious name if you’re a witness to Geoffrey Charles’ latest alcohol-induced stomach upset), Ross steps in to help GC, and Monk Adderley, deprived of the last word, contorts into a malevolent sneer as he contemplates how he’ll get his revenge on Ross.
PS: Lay off the booze, Geoffrey Charles! - 3.
Sure, George
Elizabeth doesn’t believe George for a second when he reassures her that he’s in fact not plotting a new way to hasten Ross’ downfall.
- 4.
Cashing In
And the award for Best Actress in a Cornish revival of It’s a Wonderful Life goes to…Prudie, for her work on Demelza’s plan to help shore up confidence in Pascoe’s Bank and prevent everyone from withdrawing their money all at once,
- 5.
Pascoe Fiasco
With a smug snuggle into his throne chair, George relishes the knowledge that he is now poised to lower the boom on Pascoe…and Ross.
- 6.
Everybody, Just Be Cool
The surprise first-time meeting between Ross and Mini-Ross (Valentine) during which Ross and Elizabeth casually pretend that everything is perfectly normal, would be just the sweetest thing if we weren’t so worried that George was about to roll up in his carriage and walk in on this informal family reunion!
- 7.
True Partners
Demelza is touched when Ross shows that he actually values her opinion, asking for her ideas about how to pay their miners after the fall of Pascoe’s Bank. Naturally, she has a solid plan: borrow money from Dwight and Caroline, and see if Francis Basset can help save the bank.
- 8.
Boom, Boom, Boom
In a gesture of gratitude, Zacky & Co. put on an old-timey fireworks show for Ross and Demelza, whose care and cunning got them all paid in spite of the Pascoe Fiasco. Inspired by the good cheer, the dazzling lights, and the shy smiles Drake is exchanging with Rosina, Sam suggests that his brother might try again with Morwenna.
- 9.
Oh, Ross.
Just about everyone (including Reverend Halse, the original Ross Poldark!) is on hand to celebrate the opening of the new Cornwall General Infirmary. Ross—in spite of having already worked Basset’s last nerve—allows himself to fall for George’s provocations, so furious is he over George’s role in Pascoe’s downfall and the hypocrisy in the room.
- 10.
Good Thing They're in an Infirmary
Is it the tension, the heat, the extra-long opening ceremony remarks by Reverend Halse that causes Elizabeth to faint? No! She’s pregnant! And although she’d like to keep her condition a secret to engineer an “early” birth for this baby, reinforcing the story of Valentine’s “early” birth, she soon shares the news with George when he threatens to send Dr. Choake, leeches and all, around to treat her.
- 11.
Heartbreak at the Vicarage
Drake gives it one more try with Morwenna, declaring his love. But she tells him never to return—she’s hopeless…and pregnant.
- 12.
London Calling
It’s about time: Ross finally invites Demelza to join him in London. Caroline wants Dwight to join her there, too. Couples trip! What could possibly go wrong?
